Joint Project by Jilin University and Honghua Group Wins 2019 State Technological Invention Award

January 10, 2019 – On January 10, The winner of 2019 State Science and Technology Awards was released in Beijing. The “Key Technology for Top-Drive and Accurate Pressure Control Drilling Equipment and Its Application” jointly invented by Jilin University and Honghua Group Co., Ltd. ( “Honghua” or the “Group”) (0196.HK), a provider of global energy and smart development solutions, won the Second Prize of the 2019 State Technological Invention Award.

The award-winning project was mainly conducted by Sun Youhong (Jilin University), Wang Qingyan (Jilin University), Lv Lan (Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd.), Yu Ping (Jilin University), Ren Jie (Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd.), Sha Yongbo (Jilin University). Lv Lan and Ren Jie are the technical backbone of Honghua.

The project is mainly applied to the Earth Crust No. 1, the first 10,000m specialized continental scientific drilling rig in China. The R&D highlight lies in the automated drilling rig and the largest full-hydraulic top-drive equipment in China. With the international advanced digital mechatronics design, the rig has a simplified mechanical structure, and digital control with digitalized and artificial intelligence capabilities. It is in a leading position in the field of domestic ultra-deep drilling rigs. The Earth Crust No. 1 drilling rig set a new record on depth of core drilling for deep earth research, and became the world’s first scientific well drilling through Continental Cretaceous.

This project enables China’s deep drilling technology to reach the international high-level in the field of deep drilling technology. It provides new possibilities for deep energy exploration and development in China, and enhances China’s technological innovation capacity and global impact in the field of deep earth exploration. In the future, Honghua will continue to focus on technological innovation to develop drilling rigs with higher performance for the ultra-deep well drilling projects in China.

On the award announcement day, the State Council of the PRC and the CPC Central Committee held a grand conference for the award in Beijing. Mr. Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Wang Huning, Han Zheng and other party and state leaders attended the conference and presented the awards to the winners.

This selection awarded 296 projects and 12 scientific and technical experts. Among them, 46 projects won the State Natural Science Award, 65 projects won the State Technological Invention Award, and 185 projects won the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. 11 awards went to China’s petroleum industry, including 3 second prize of the State Technological Invention Award, and 2 First Prize and 6 Second Prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
